Impulse generator giving single spark per revolution for variable advance ignition of motor vehicle IC engine

The impulse generator has a stator carrying electromagnets and a rotor carrying permanent magnets. The rotor is driven in rotation by the internal combustion engine. The stator carries two coils, one serving as detector and the other as the ignition coil. A pole of the rotor finishes covering the detector coil when the following pole finishes uncovering the ignition coil. The magnetic coupling between the rotor poles and the stator poles can be varied during rotation by adjustment of the pole carrying the coil serving as detector. The detector coil triggers a transistor switching circuit that acts with the ignition coil to generate the spark.
