The apparatus consists of two jaws (13) connected to a mechanism (12) which moves them horizontally to hold a series of bars (20) between them, and a moving carriage (11) which supports the jaws and is subjected to a reciprocating vertical movement to raise the bars to the height for feeding into a cutter. The carriage is equipped with a spring-loaded stop (17) to limit the downward movement of the bars. The horizontal movement of the jaws is controlled by power cylinders (12), and the vertical movement by another power cylinder (14). The jaws have angled face recesses (13a) which allow them to bundle four bars at a time.
