PURPOSE: To easily align a light-absorbing layer and a filter layer by overlapping the edge of the filter layer and the light-shielding layer, and thereby, to prevent production of projections due to cutting or overlapping of steps on the surface where pixel electrodes are to be formed, and thereby, to prevent cutting of wires or short circuit to the counter electrode. CONSTITUTION: A red filter layer 3R, green filter layer 3G, and blue filter layer 3B are independently formed but the edge of each filter is overlapped with a light-shielding layer 2. By this method, the space between the filter layers 3R, 3B is made small. By applying an overcoat layer 4 on the whole surface, the space between filter layers is filled with the overcoat layer 4. As a result, the surface of the overcoat layer 4 is made smooth and flat on the light- shielding layer 2 where a gap is apt to appear by a conventional method, while maintaining the step due to the difference of thickness of filter layers 3R, 3B. The light-shielding layer 2 consists of a metal compd. such as metal chromium and is formed to about 0.06-0.2μm thickness. |
