PURPOSE: To obtain a synthesized picture of less distortion by two-dimensionally picking up the image of a document and correcting the detection error of a picture position detecting means to perform picture synthesis. CONSTITUTION: An image pickup means 20 two-dimensionally picks up the image of the document to output an image pickup signal. an image pickup position detecting means 40 detects the image pickup position of the image pickup means 20 to output a position signal. An overlap area specifying means 91 specifies the overlap area of a reference picture stored in a picture information storage means 50 and a comparison picture in accordance with positions of the reference picture and the comparison picture. A coincidence degree discriminating means 110 compares a reference partial picture taken in by a reference partial picture taking-in means 92 with plural comparison partial pictures taken in by a comparison partial picture taking-in means 93 to specify the comparison picture elements of plural comparison partial pictures, which have the highest degree of coincidence with the reference partial picture, as noticed comparison picture elements. A picture synthesizing means 94 puts the reference picture and the comparison picture one over the other based on position information of the reference picture element and position information of noticed comparison picture elements specified by the means 110. |
