PURPOSE: To provide an optical switch capable of maintaining high positioning accuracy while evading the considerable waste of labor and fatigue. CONSTITUTION: The displacement of a moving side ferrule 41 generated when the moving side ferrule 41 is abutted on the inner wall 11c of a ferrule insertion hole 11 is detected by a displacement detection means 80 and the address of the center axis line of the ferrule insertion hole 11 is specified from the displacement. In such a manner, the moving side ferrule 41 is directly abutted on the inner wall 11c of the ferrule insertion hole 11 and the address of the ferrule insertion hole 11 is automatically detected from the displacement of the moving side ferrule 41 at the time. Thus, the need of deciding the address by the vision of an operator is eliminated and the labor of the operator is substantially reduced.
