PURPOSE: To provide an electron beam generating device, its driving method and an image forming device applying it by making the electron beam output strength of a multi-electron beam source correct and fluctuationless and preventing the deviation and fluctuation in luminance and contrast lowering of an image display device containing the multi-electron beam source. CONSTITUTION: The electron beam generating device is provided with (m) pieces of row wiring and (n) pieces of column wiring for matrix-wiring plural cold cathode elements arranged on a substrate in a shape of matrix and a drive signal generation part generating a signal for driving plural cold cathode elements one row each, and the drive signal generation part is provided with a current value decision part 8013 deciding current values flowing to respective (n) pieces of column wiring based on an electron beam request value of an external input, a current impression part 8012 allowing the decided currents to flow to respective column wirings and a voltage application part 8012 applying a voltage V1 to row wirings selected from among (m) pieces of row wiring and the voltage V2 to other row wirings.
