PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an integrated optic 2×2 coupler having a satisfactory achromatic properly and little insertion loss at a spectral window. SOLUTION: This integrated optic achromatic device is constituted of a dual-mode wave guide channel 1 having the axis X in the longitudinal direction, the length L, and the width W and two pairs of mono-mode wave guide channels 2, 3 and 4, 5 for an inlet and an outlet respectively. A length L and a width W of the dual-mode wave guide channel 1 are selected so that larger optical coupling is established windows of 1,260-1,360nm than in window of 1,480-1,580nm in this wave guide channel and the large proximity coupling in the opposite direction in these windows generated between the mono-mode inlet wave guides 2, 3 on one side and the mono-mode outlet wave guides 4, 5 on the other side is compensated. This device is applicable for generating a 2×2 coupler having little insertion loss and an achromatic property in spectral windows of 1,260-1,360nm and 1,480-1,580nm. |
