PURPOSE: To provide a developing device which confines developer to the vicinity of a developing roller, with a developing unit detached from a device main body for the replenishment of toner and the change of a color, and prevents toner scatter and irregularities in the density of a formed image even in its actuation right after the loading of the unit. CONSTITUTION: In the state of taking the developing unit 2 out of the device main body and in the state of the developing unit 2 taken out of the device main body, the part where a hopper 9 and the developing roller 4 communicate is shielded by a shutter 20, and the toner 7 is confined to the vicinity of the developing roller 4. Thus, even when the unit is tilted in its longitudinal direction, the toner near the developing roller is prevented from gathering in one place in the longitudinal direction, and developer scatter and irregularities in the density of the formed image are prevented. |
