PURPOSE: To economically manufacture silicon-containing carbon particles with high electric capacity by heat-treating a mixture of a specific organic silicon compound and graphite at a specified temperature to form a carbide containing a specified amount of silicon and graphite. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of an organic silicon compound comprising a monomer represented by a general formula: (HO)n -Si-(OR)4-n (wherein n is an integer of 0-3, and R is an organic group.) and/or its polymer, and graphite, and tar pitch if necessary is heat-treated at 650-1000 deg.C. The carbide obtained contains 2-25wt.% silicon and 5-75wt.% graphite. A negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery with high capacity and high safety can be provided. |
