PROCEDURE FOR CODING/DECODING ERROR CORRECTION CODE FOR RECORDING/REPRODUCING DIGITAL VIDEO DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coding and decoding procedures for an error correction code for recording and reproducing digital video data. SOLUTION: An error correction encoding function deforms trick-play data so as to exclude the data from an external error correction encoding 41 in the two-dimensional Reed-Solomom coding of normal-play data so as to improve error correction capability for the normal-play data. The same error correction coding to be used as an internal error correction coding 42 is executed also for the trick-play data in addition to the normal-play data processing by the external error correction coding 41. The obtained internal code is scanned and interleaved like a diagonal line with the normal-play data prior to its recording. When interleaving is executed at the time of reproducing, the internal error-correction coded data are decoded after deinterleaving and separated into the trick-play data and the external error-correction coded normal-play data. The normal-play data are decoded during the period of normal-play.
