The housing device, incorporated in the vehicle steering wheel, has an inner cover (34) having a wall which partially encloses the airbag (38), provided with a defined rupture point (50)for deployment of the airbag. An outer cover (36)has a wall at least partially enclosing the inner cover and the airbag, similarly having a defined rupture point (48), with a horn switch (58), connected to the vehicle battery, between the inner and outer covers. The horn switch has rupture points aligned with the rupture points in the inner and outer covers, with a combined length which is less than the length of each.
