The printer has a first developing unit (5) with a rotating body containing a first developer. It has a magnetic brush carrying a toner and a carrier. It develops a first electrostatic latent image formed on a print body using the magnetic brush to form a first toner image. The printer has a second development unit (4) with a rotating body containing a second developer. The magnetic brush carries a toner containing a toner and a carrier. It develops a second electrostatic latent image on a print body, using the magnetic brush to form a second toner image. Two magnetic poles of the same polarity are provided next to each other opposite the print body. Development takes place when B1 is at most 1100; B2 is between 1000 and 1200 and B1-B2 is between -300 and zero. B1 is the magnetic flux density on the surface of the body containing the developer. B2 is the flux density on the surface of the body from the other magnet pole on the upstream side of the developer transmission direction.
