An infrared radiation detector assembly comprises a radiation detector element or an arrangement of radiation detector elements, a focusing lens and/or mirror arrangement which, as the case may be, forms a part of an optical scanning system which focuses radiation received onto the detector element, as well as a screen or mask which surrounds the beam path towards the detector element and screens the detector element from stray radiation. In order to reduce the problems of known assemblies of this type, in which the radiation reflected or emitted by the detector element itself is retroreflected from the inner surface of the screen onto the detector element, as the case may be on to precisely the same point from which the radiation emanated, the inner surface of the screen is shaped in such a way that the radiation coming from the region of the detector element is deflected onto a non-reflecting surface which surrounds the detector element. For this purpose, the surface has a shape which is spheroidal or in the form of an axially offset spherical segment.
