Large display for text and graphics having matrix of movable elements

The display has a matrix of movable individually elements for a raster type representation of characters and symbols. By switching their position the individual elements cause a static change in their matrix position and thus a change in the image represented. The individual elements are aligned on a rotating continuous track and pass by a writing station when the representation changes are continually. The writing station causes the switching over of the elements. The matrix elements are arranged column-wise, i.e. perpendicular to the direction of movement on a common axis of rotation. The switching of the individual matrix elements is carried out purely mechanically or magnetically. With representations of successive elements which are constant in the writing direction, the writing station is also controlled in a statically constant manner.
