A process for industrially producing cis-3-hydroxy-L-proline which is useful as a material in the synthesis of drugs or a food additive; an L-proline 3-hydroxylase gene useful in this process; a recombinant DNA containing this gene; a transformant containing this recombinant DNA; a process for producing L-proline 3-hydroxilase with the use of this transformant; and this enzyme.
