A washing machine for baking trays comprises an insertion assembly which places soiled trays between adjacently-located upper and lower endless belts. The facing belts each incorporate parallel seams which convey the respective trays leaving the surfaces mainly clear. Both conveyers are formed by a series of parallel small-width strips. An assembly directs a jet of cleaning steam or liq. towards a washing zone towards the upper face of the baking tray.
