An apparatus for use as accessory to a spectrometer includes a large diameter optical waveguide (16) for coupling the external radiation port of the spectrometer to an external device such as a flexible probe. Also disclosed is an optical arrangement for transferring an image from a first optical system to a second optical system substantially without aberration.
