The square-section horizontal spit (5), holding e.g. meat between two stops (6), is driven, through the rear wall of the insulated case (1,2,3), by a geared motor (8) mounted on a vertical side-pivot (20,21). At the front (9), the spit rotates freely in a support ring (10) on a locating bracket (11,12,13,14) fabricated from round bar, whose upper end, hooked (16) over a fixed horizontal rod (17), is restrained (16) by the oven ceiling. The spit end, easily detached, swings clear (P), giving access to the food. Opt., food is held on smaller spits supported in a cylindrical cage rotating with the main spit, and successively turned as end sprockets strike a bar (28) on the support.
