PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new compound having excellent antimicrobial effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and useful for antimicrobial agents against various kinds of bacteria from a cultured mixture obtained by culturing a thiomarinol B-producing bacterium belonging to the genus alteromonas. CONSTITUTION:A thiomarinol B-producing bacterium belonging to the genus Alteromonas [e.g. Artheromonas rava SANK 73390 strain (FERM-BP-3381), etc.] is cultured and a product is collected from the resultant cultured mixture to provide the objective thiomarinol B expressed by the formula and having the following properties: Appearance: yellow powder; molecular formula: C30H44 N2O11S2 molecular weight: 672 (FAB-MS method) ; high resolution mass analysis: observed value 673.2468, calculated values 673.2465; elementary analysis: observed values C 52.34, H 6.79, N 3.92, S 9.02, calculated values C 52.16, H6.71, N4.06, S9.28; specific rotation [alpha]<25>D=+7.7 deg. [(c) is 1.0, 1-propanol]; solubility, soluble in methanol, ethanol, dimethylsulfoxide, DMF, chloroform, ethyl acetate, etc., and insoluble in n-hexane and water. |
