The improvement in the polymer-bonded image-dye layer of a donor element for use in thermal dye transfer is that there is also present in the layer a monomeric or oligomeric organic stabiliser (I) which is of Tg above 60 deg. C and which (A) has a phenylindane gp.; or (B) is derived from a mixt. of different cpds. each having at least two linking components joining one multivalent organic nucleus (IIA) with at least two organic nuclei (IIB), with at least one of (IIA) and (IIB) being a multi-cyclic aromatic nucleus.
