SUBSTANCE: method comprising steps of roll operation in stand and periodical roll tempering provides lowered depth of roll regrinding or elimination of regrinding due to tempering roll directly in stand by heating them with use of heat of metal being rolled and simultaneous lowering of roll cooling intensity. In order to avoid disorder of rolling process it is advisable to perform tempering during planned shutdowns of mill. Roll surface is being heated no more than up to 530 C for rolls of two-high rolling stands and stands of bar rolling mills and no more than up to 400 C for rolls of four-high rolling stands. EFFECT: enhanced strength of rolling rolls due to lowered depth of roll regrinding for removing thermal erosion cracking.
