PURPOSE:To shift a lens to the prescribed position of the variable power scale factor without fail by detecting the shifting of the lens to the lens reference position by a lens reference position detecting element, and shifting and stopping the lens to the position in accordance with the setting scale factor by detecting the rotation quantity by the encoder. CONSTITUTION:When an optional variable power scale factor is set and inputted from an operation part 41, the number of pulses necessary to shift between a lens reference position and a setting scale factor position is changed to R'n, and a CPU39 calculates the number of pulses to drive a lens driving motor 19 from a lens reference position based upon the scale factor set with the present scale factor (first, unmagnification), the result is outputted to a motor driving circuit 43, the lens driving motor 19 is driven and the lens 10 is shifted to the position in accordance with the set scale factor. At such a time, the rotation quantity of the lens driving motor 19 is detected by an encoder 34, only the necessary number of pulses (R'-R0)n is driven, the total number of pulses reaches R'n, and then, the lens driving motor 19 is stopped and the lens 10 is stopped.
