Cationic 1,3,4-thiadiazole dyes of formula (I) are new: R<2> = 1-12C alkyl, 2-12C alkenyl, 4-8C cycloalkyl or 6-10C aryl-(1-5C)-alkyl; and (a) R<1> = H, 1-12C alkyl, 2-12C alkenyl, 4-8C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl-(1-5C)-alkyl or 6-10C aryl if Ro = tetramethylenesulphonyl of the formula: (b) R<1> = 2-12C alkenyl, 4-8C hydroxyalkyl, 1-8C cyanoalkyl, 4-8C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl, unsubstd. 3-12C alkyl or a 1-12C alkyl gp. substd. by halogen, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl or phenyl if Ro = 1-12C cyanoallyl or 1-12C hydroxyalkyl; or (c) R<1> = H, Me or Et if Ro = CH2CN or CH2CH2CH2CN; K = the radical of a coupling component of formula (II), (III) or (IV): R<3> = H, halogen, CN, NO2, OH, 1-12C alkyl, 1-12C alkoxy, 1-12C alkoxycarbonyl, 1-12C acylamino, 1-12C acyloxy, 1-12C alkoxycarbonylamino or 1-12C alkoxycarbonyloxy; R<4>, R<5> = H, 1-12C alkyl, 2-12C alkenyl, 4-8C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl-(1-5C)-alkyl or a heterocyclyl or heterocyclyl(m)ethyl gp. with up to 2 rings and up to 3 O, N and S hetero-atom(s); or NR<4>R<5> = a heterocycle with up to 2 rings and up to 4 O, N and S heteroatom(s); or R<3> + R<4> and/or R<3> + R<5> = a bridge contg. 2 or 3C atoms and opt. an O, N or S atom and opt. mono- to tri-substd. by Me or Et; R<6> = H, 1-12C alkyl, 1-12C alkoxy, CN, halogen or NO2; R<7>, R<8>, R<9>, R<10> = H, 1-12C alkyl, 2-12C alkenyl, 4-8C cycloalkyl, 6-10C aryl or 6-10C aryl-(1-5C)-alkyl; R<9> may also = CN or 1-12C alkoxycarbonyl; n, m = 1 or 2; X<-> = an anion. Also claimed are (co)polymers of acrylonitrile and dicyanoethylene, acid-modified polyamide fibres, tanned cellulose materials, paper, silk, leather, ball pen inks, writing inks, stamp pad ink and ink jet inks contg. dye(s) (I). |
