A process for the surface oxidn. of polyarylene thioethers (PATE) comprises contacting the surface of the material with an ozone-contg. gas stream or liq. Pref. the process is carried out with ozone/oxygen or ozone/air mixts., or with ozone-contg. water or acetic acid, using an ozone concn. of 1-200 g/m<3>. The sulphur bridges in the PATE are oxidised to sulphoxide and/or sulphone. |
