PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing an aromatic sulfide polymer by which the amounts of water and a solvent in a system during the polymerizing reaction are controlled with a relatively simple apparatus to thereby improve the productivity of the aromatic sulfide polymer per batch. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing an aromatic sulfide polymer represented by a polyphenylene sulfide comprises two continuous steps of a step (step 1) for introducing (A) an alkali metallic sulfide into (C11 an organic polar solvent, controlled to an amount so as to provide <1, preferably 0.1-0.9 value of the molar ratio of (solvent)/(alkali metallic sulfide) in the step and heated at the melting point or above of the hydrous alkali metallic sulfide (A) and preparing (D) a dehydrated mixture, a step (step 2) for adding (B) a polyhalo-aromatic compound and (C2) an additional organic polar solvent to (D) the dehydrated mixture in step 1 and carrying out the polymerizing reaction. |
