A ferritic steel alloy contains 7 - 18 wt.% Cr, 0.1 - 3% (/2W + Mo), 0.10 - 1.0% Ti and is strengthened by dispersed oxide, including 0.10 - 0.30% of Y2O3 and 0.03 - 0.15% excess O. The excess O equals the total O minus the O content of the Y2O3, and the excess O also amounts to 0.25 - 0.5 x %Y2O3. The ingredients are mixed together and heated at up to 1300 deg C to effect recrystallisation, resulting in a ductile alloy which resists deformation under fluid pressure.
