PURPOSE: To produce a carbide having high electric capacity with highly industrially useful economics and to obtain a negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery contg. particles of the carbide, having high electric capacity and excellent in safety. CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous material (A) having 1-20μm average particle diameter and 0.335-0.340nm distance (d002 ) between carbon layers is mixed with tar pitch (B) and a metal selected from among Al, Zn, Sn and Si, a compd. contg. such a metallic element or a mixture (C) of two or more kinds of such compds. and the resultant mixture is heat-treated to obtain the objective carbide contg. 10-60wt.% of the component A, 80-20wt.% carbonaceous material derived from the component B and 2-20wt.% metallic elements derived from the component C. |
