A gas cooker (10) comprises two burners (11 and 12), a gas valve (14) operated by a push and twist control knob (26) controlling the supply of gas to both of the burners and two thermo-couples (18 and 19) which are located adjacent to the burners (11 and 12), respectively, to detect the presence or absence of flame at the burners (11 and 12), the arrangement being such that the gas valve (14) will be closed in response to the absence of flame at either one or both of the burners (11 and 12) detected by the corresponding thermo-couple or thermo-couples (18 and/or 19). A time delay may be provided in each thermo-couple circuit to allow time for re-ignition of a blown-out burner from the other burner.
