The model pin has a body (2) which comprises a fixing shaft (3) which extends into the jaw or teeth and an insert shaft (4) which is conically or cylindrically shaped. At the end of the fixing shaft is a slot (1) which can be set at an inclined angle to the shaft or be parallel, diagonal or at 90 deg. to it. The slot extends partially up the fixing shaft which has a thickness which is greater than the hole in the jaw of the patient. The diameter of the insert shaft (14) corresponds to that of the inner diameter of a guide sleeve made of plastics or metal. The outer surface of the guide sleeve is rough. The end of the fixing shaft can also have side projections on it which further help to secure it in position.
