摘要 A motor vehicle friction clutch (1) has a clutch housing (6) secured to a flywheel (2), a pressure plate (4) and a clutch plate (5) with friction linings (23) between the pressure plate (4) and the flywheel (2). A diaphragm spring (7) urges the pressure plate (4) towards the flywheel (2) and engages the pressure plate through an automatic wear adjuster (18,18a). The clutch also has a clearance-providing device (9) which acts through an actuating lever (12) on the adjuster. The adjuster comprises an axially stiff sheet metal ring (18) concentric with the axis (3). A spring (21) urges the the ring (18) circumferentially so that during adjustment the ring moves axially due to the cooperation between inclined surfaces on the ring and complementary surfaces on the pressure plate (4), or the diaphragm spring (7), or a second ring (18a). The lever (12) is fixed to a pin (10) held in a stop position. As wear occurs the pressure plate slides along the pin, the latter being held frictionally by the action of springs (13,14) to the plate during subsequent disengagement. While disengaged the device (9) provides clearance to enable the adjuster to operate. The arrangemen makes it possible to provide only one clearance-providing device (9) thus reducing cost.
