Stabilisation of an aq. soln. contg. an isothiazolone cpd. against chemical decomposition comprises adding a a metal salt, where the cation is an alkali metal and the anion is acetate, citrate, phosphate or borate. Also claimed is a compsn. contg. an isothiazolone cpd. and a stabilising amt. of a metal salt (cation and anion as above) combined with an acid in the form of a buffer soln. The alkali metal is sodium or pref. potassium. The metal salt is combined with an acid in the form of a 0.02-2.0 M buffer soln., which is a mixt. of sodium acetate and acetic acid or a mixt. of sodium citrate and hydrochloric acid. The isothiazolone cpd. is 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, 2-n-octyl-3-isothiazolone or 4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-3-isothiazolone. |
