PURPOSE:To restrain the speed of a vehicle from overshooting, by compensating a set duty value corresponding to a desired vehicle speed through integration, and by lowering the set duty value to a predetermined value when an automatic speed change gear is shifted down from a highest gear stage. CONSTITUTION:A duty control type constant speed running device calculates an output duty value D by use of the following equation: D=GXDELTAV+SD, (where G: gain, DELTAV: vehicle speed deviation, SD: set duty value), and adjusts the opening degree of a throttle valve at the thus obtained output duty value D to converge the speed deviation DELTAV. It is noted that the vehicle speed deviation DELTAV is the difference between a desired vehicle speed VM and a running or spark advance vehicle speed Vs, and the set duty value SD corresponds to the desired vehicle speed V. In this arrangement, the set duty value SD corresponding to the desired vehicle speed VM is compensated through integration, and is lowered to a predetermined value when an automatic speed change gear is shifted down from the highest gear stage.
