Carpet recycling process and system

The carpet is shredded into strips and disintegrated to separate the fibres from the backing. Disintegration takes place e.g. in a hammer mill, which uses rotating hammers and anvils, the latter consisting of e.g. serrated cutting bars. Backing and tufts are rendered into a loose heterogeneous mixt. which is granulated and treated to separate the polymeric fibre particulates from the backing particulates.
