A tyre having side walls 11, 12 and at least one intermediate wall 13 is formed by moulding two separate tyre portions 14, 15 and attaching them together. Preferably, each tyre portion has one planar side wall 17 and the tyre is formed by bonding these together. Conveniently, the intermediate wall is located centrally between the side walls 11, 12. A wheel rim has flanges (6, 7, Fig 3a) on its outer peripheral surface intermediate the flanges 2, 3 supporting the tyre side walls 11, 12. The intermediate wall 13 of the tyre is received in a channel (8) between the flanges (6, 7). Conveniently, the intermediate wall 13 is secured in the channel (8) by a band (31) or a clip. Inner tubes may be inserted into the compartments formed between the tyre and the wheel rim. In one form the wheel rim is divided into two annular portions (60, 61, Fig 9) with a clamp ring (65) to fix them together. The intermediate wall 13 of the tyre is clamped between the two wheel rim portions so that a tubeless tyre can be used. |
