<p>The invention relates to a first method of producing 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane, and a second method of producing 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane from 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane. In the first method, carbon tetrachloride is reacted with vinyl chloride in an aprotic polar organic solvent, in the presence of a catalyst containing elemental iron. In the second method, 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane is fluorinated with hydrogen fluoride in a liquid phase, in the presence of an antimony-containing catalyst. According to the first and second methods, 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane and 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane can be respectively produced with high yield in an industrial scale.</p> |
