PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a specific UV light absorber to a textile fiber to significantly reduce the amount of UV light passing through a fabric produced from the treated fiber. SOLUTION: This method for the treatment of a textile fiber to reduce the amount of UV light passing through a fabric produced from the treated fiber comprise treating the textile fiber comprising natural fibers such as cotton, synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile or polyurethane fibers or their mixture with 0.1 to 6.0 wt.%, preferably 0.3 to 3.0 wt.%, on the fiber, of a UV light absorber of formula I (A is the radical of a UV light absorber; B is the radical of a UV light absorber or a water-solubilizing group; and X is F or Cl) added to a neutral or alkaline bath, such as a reactive dye bath, at 20 to 140 deg.C. Therein, X is preferably Cl; at least one of A and B is a UV light-absorbing group substituted by at least one of SO3 H, COOH, phenolic OH and their salts, and is selected from groups of formula II to VI (R1 and R2 are each H, a 1 to 18C alkyl, a 1 to 18C alkoxy, a halogen, nitro, hydroxy, a COOM or a SO3 M; and M is H, an amine salt or an alkaline earth metal, preferably sodium ion). |
