PURPOSE: To remove harmful components such as nitrogen oxide without causing increasing of pressure loss and deterioration of combustion efficiency by providing a heat shielding member, in which a catalyst is dispersed, on the surface of a structural member made of a metal or ceramic. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst-containing heat shielding member containing the catalyst 1 for removing nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide in a high temp. combustion gas is provided through a binding layer 4 on the surface of the structural member made of a metal or ceramic as the base material 3 in contact or collision with the combustion gas. The catalyst-containing heat shielding member is obtained by covering the surface of the metal or ceramic made structural member with a material made by mixing the heat shielding member 2 with the catalyst 1 by a method such as thermal spraying, CVD, coating, ion implantation, PVD, laminating, CVI or impregnation. Particularly a method by thermal spraying and impregnating the catalyst after thermal spraying is inexpensive and effective. The heat shielding member 2 is composed of a Zr oxide, Al oxide or Si oxide having a small heat conductivity. |
