Prepn. of alkyl halo-difluoroacetates of formula CF2X-CO-OR (I), comprises reaction of 1,1-difluorotetrahaloethane of formula CF2XCY2Z (II) with an alcohol of formula ROH (III), in the presence of oxygen and a free radical generator. X = F, Cl, Br or I; R = 1-10C aliphatic hydrocarbyl; Y, Z = Cl, Br or I.
