<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To slit a thin web into long narrow webs of uniform cut width by causing the web to float on a porous surface and bringing it into contact with an element having a cutter. SOLUTION: An edge part sensor 38 is provided so that a web 26 is brought into contact with knives 28 and 30 at the proper place of a horizontal direction on the web, and the edge position of the arriving web 26 is detected. The sensor 38 generates a signal to a controller 40, and the controller 40 operates an linear actuator 42 operatively connected to an air bar 12 and the knives 28 and 30. A proper slive is provided to move the air bar 12 and the knives 28 and 30 in the horizontal direction, and according to the meandering of the arriving web 26 in the horizontal direction, the actuator 42 adjusts the positions of the air bar 12 and the knives 28 and 30. Thus, the width of the web slit to be thin and long, and of a narrow width is precisely controlled.</p> |
