PURPOSE: To improve the light resistance of an obtained dye image by conducting sublimation thermal transfer recording using a thermal transfer ink sheet which uses a hydrophobic cationic dye as a sublimation dye and a thermal transfer image receiving sheet having a dye accepting layer containing an interlayer compound which can hold the hydrophobic cationic dye by intercalation. CONSTITUTION: In a thermal transfer image receiving sheet in which a dye accepting layer 2 containing an interlayer compound which can hold a hydrophobic cationic dye by intercalation and a binder polymer is formed on a support 1, a multivalent metal salt of a salicylic acid derivative is contained in the dye accepting layer, or in a thermal transfer ink sheet in which an ink layer containing a hydrophobic cationic dye is formed on a base material, a multivalent metal salt of a salicylic acid derivative is contained in an ink layer.
