PRODUCTION OF AROMATIC CARBOXYLIC ACID AND METHOD FOR RECOVERING CATALYST

PURPOSE: To recover a heavy metallic catalyst by a simple operations and recycle the recovered catalyst for use in producing an aromatic carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION: An oxidation reactional solution is separated into a solid oxidation product and an oxidation reactional mother liquor and the oxidation product is then treated with water and/or an acid to leach a heavy metallic compound contained therein. The resultant solution is then treated with a secondary and/or a tertiary amines to recover and recycle the heavy metallic catalyst for use in a method for producing an aromatic carboxylic acid by oxidizing an aromatic compound having a substituent group of an alkyl, an acyl or formyl group and/or its oxidation intermediate in a solvent containing an aliphatic carboxylic acid in the presence of the catalyst comprising the heavy metallic compound and a bromine compound with molecular oxygen.
