PURPOSE: To eliminate the waste of excess time for reading and to prevent scattering of ink to an image reader by placing both image reading means and recording means, and so controlling as to operate with high quality level by recovering means at the time of placing the reading means. CONSTITUTION: Positioning protrusions 2d, 2e are formed at predetermined parts of the inner wall of a carriage 2, while a positioning hole 1b and a positioning cutout 1c are formed at a recording head 1 and a scanner. The head 1 (or the scanner) is positioned by engaging the protrusions 2d, 2e with the hole 1b or the cutout 1c, and fixed by the operation of a contact spring 23. When the scanner is placed, a control without a quality level holding operation (suction recovering, idle sucking, wiping and capping) not necessary for reading is conducted, thereby rapidly reading by the scanner. |
