The present invention relates to the production of a sensor consisting of a strip of metallised 2 piezoelectric 1 film placed in a flexible profiled element 3; the strip of piezoelectric film can be replaced by or combined with a strip of rubber whose resistance varies with the pressure applied to it. The sensor thus constituted can be adhesively bonded onto or into the roadway, or mounted mechanically. Applications to detecting the passage of vehicles or pedestrians, to weighing vehicles, to measuring the width of tyre tread marks. <IMAGE>
