PURPOSE: To provide a new specific cyclohexanone compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for silacyclohexane type liquid crystal compounds low in driving voltage, having crystallizability in a wide temperature range and useful for liquid crystal display, etc. CONSTITUTION: The new cyclohexanone compound is represented by formula I (Ar is phenyl, tolyl; R is Ar, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C mono or difluoroalkyl, a 3-8C alkyl, a 2-7C alkoxyalkyl) and is useful as a synthetic intermediate for silacyclohexanone compounds low in driving voltage, having crystallizability in a wide temperature range, and useful for liquid crystal display, etc. The compound is obtained by subjecting an enamine compound of formula II [each of R<1> , R<2> is a 1-4C alkyl, or R<1> and R<2> are combined with each other to form a cyclic group of formula: (CH2 )4 , formula: (CH2 )5 , formula: (CH2 )2 O(CH)2 , etc.,] to a Michel addition reaction with methylvinylketone, hydrolyzing the reaction product, subjecting the obtained ketoaldehyde compound of formula III to an intramolecular aldol condensation reaction, and subsequently hydrogenating the obtained cyclohexenone compound. |
