<p>PURPOSE: To attain a higher sulfur recovery ratio by a method in which the temperature of the wall surface of a heat exchanger is adjusted to the solidification point of sulfur or below by means of the temperature and flow velocity of a cooling medium and to the dew point of water or above when water is present in a gas. CONSTITUTION: The inflow temperature of cooling air introduced into a heat exchanger 4 through piping 3, in order to avoid the condensation of water vapor on the inflow side of a process gas, is adjusted at a proper temperature by a pre-heater 18 and a heat exchanger 17. The process gas to be cooled containing sulfur vapor and entrained sulfur particles is sent to the inflow chamber 6 of the heat exchanger 4, and condensed sulfur is released through piping 7. The amount of cooling air to be supplied, the temperature of heated cooling air of piping 16 in the process gas side outlet of the heat exchanger 4, in order to prevent the condensation of water, is controlled by using a control valve 20. The cooling air flows countercurrent-wise in the heat exchanger 4, proper heat transmission is done between a cooling medium and the process gas by a partition 15.</p> |
