METALLIC POROUS BODY HAVING THREE-DIMENSIONAL NETWORK STRUCTURE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To easily produce a metallic porous body having open pores and excellent in strength and corrosion resistance at a low cost by plating the surface of a three-dimensional network skeleton made of iron with nickel. CONSTITUTION: Acrylic resin and carboxylmethyl cellurose(CMC) as binders and water are added to fine spherical carbonyl iron powder and they are mixed to prepare a slurry. Polyurethane foam as a resin having high porosity is immersed in the slurry to impregnate the slurry and the resin is dried at room temp. and sintered in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. By this sintering, the resin is removed and an iron porous body having a three-dimensional network structure is formed. The surface of this iron skeleton is then plated with nickel in a Watts bath and the skeleton is heated in a hydrogen atmosphere to produce the objective metallic porous body consisting of iron and nickel and having a counter diffusion layer of the metals between the metals.
