摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition, consisting essentially of two kinds of liquid crystalline compounds having specific structures, capable of reducing the temperature dependence of response speed, excellent in contrast and improved in driving characteristics. CONSTITUTION: This composition consists essentially of (A) a compound of the formula R1 -A1 -X1 -A2 -X2 -A3 -R2 [R1 and R2 are each H, CN, etc.; X1 and X2 are each a single bond, O, etc.; A1 to A3 are each a single bond, formula I (R3 is H, a halogen, etc.), etc., with the proviso that at least one of A1 to A3 is formula I or II (R4 is R3 )] and (B) a compound of the formula R5 -A4 -R6 [R5 and R6 are each Q-X3 -(CH2 )L-X4 or R7 (Q is formula III, IV, etc.; X3 is a single bond, OCH2 , etc.; X4 is a signal bond, CH2 O, etc.; L is 3-16; R7 is a 1-18C straight-chain, a branched, a cyclic alkyl, etc.), with the proviso that at least one of R5 and R6 is the former; A4 is A5 -X5 -A6 or A5 -A6 -X5 -A7 (A5 to A7 are each formula V, VI, etc.); X5 is a single bond, CH=CH, etc.]. The composition preferably contains 1-20wt.% each of the components (A) and (B).
