PURPOSE: To decrease the quantity of electricity to be consumed by shortening the turning-on of an illuminator by synchronously performing the output of a turning-on signal for turning on the illuminator with the input of an image signal from a video camera. CONSTITUTION: When an instruction signal is supplied from a controller 19 to an image processor 17 and an article identifying process by the article identifying device is started, the image processor 17 supplies the turning-on signal to a driving device 15 and the driving device 15 outputs a driving signal for turning on an illuminator 13. After the lapse of a prescribed time from the output of the turning-on signal, the image processor 17 fetches the image signal from a video camera 11. Thus, timing for starting the turning-on the illuminator 13 is synchronized with timing for fetching the image signal from the video camera 11. Concerning the synchronization of two kinds of timing, the vertical synchronizing signal of the video camera 11 is used and after the lapse of time corresponding to two cycles of the vertical synchronizing signal of the video camera 11 from the output of the turning-on signal, the image processor 17 fetches the image signal from the video camera 11. |
