PURPOSE: To provide a lamp failure detecting device capable of easily detecting the failures of a number of lamps. CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber 1 is placed near lamps Ln or lamp ballasts Tn , is connected to a distribution type optical-fiber temperature measuring device 2 and to a failure judging device 3, and is used as a sensor for detecting by means of the distribution type optical-fiber temperature measuring device 2 the temperatures of the lamps Ln or the ballasts Tn being heated, so as to measure the temperatures of the numerous lamps Ln placed along near the optical fiber 1 of one continuous length. The failure judging device 3 compares the measured temperature of each lamp Ln or each ballast Tn with a criterion, i.e., the temperature at the failure of the lamp Ln or the ballast Tn , so as to detect the failed lamp Ln from among the numerous lamps Ln . |
