PURPOSE: To provide a super twisted nematic liquid crystal display element whose visual characteristics is improved. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display element is provided with a liquid crystal cell 17 which is formed by sandwiching super twisted nematic liquid crystals 16 of a torsion angle from 180 deg. to 300 deg. between two electrode substrates 13, two deflecting plates 11 which are arranged on its both sides. and an optical anisotropy body 12 which is arranged on at least one side between the liquid crystal cell 17 and the deflecting plates 11, and such an optical anisotropy body is used that a twisting angle is provided as the optical anisotropy body 12, the twisting direction is inverse to that of the liquid crystal cell 17, and absolute value of the twisting angle is larger than the twisting angle of the liquid crystal cell 17 by 130 deg.-230 deg.. |
